FAQ PEBBELL
Can I turn-off the vibrate function?
Unfortunately no.
Due to the fact that the tracker has a ‘listen-in’ (spy) function, the vibration
feature is required by law, as guidelines stipulate that devices that offer ‘spy’,
‘wiretapping’ or ‘wiretapping+recording’ functions must encompass a mechanism by
which the incoming call may be identified by the individual that has the device
in their possession. These guidelines permit us to disable the ringing option
but the vibration must remain to comply with the guidelines
What features does the Personal Alarm have?
Authorized numbers up to three (3) emergency contacts
Pebbell can programme up to 3 contacts, so that in the event of an emergency all
programmed contacts will receive text alerts with the recipient’s exact location,
and the Personal Alarm will also call each contact in order until someone
answers
Two-way voice calling
The Personal Alarm has the ability to make emergency and non-emergency calls to
the programmed contacts. When the SOS button is pressed, the Personal Alarm will
call each contact from 1~3, starting with the first number. A non-emergency call
can be made to the third contact when the call button on the side of the device
is pressed. Only authorised contacts can call the Personal Alarm if they know
the mobile number.
Real-time location monitoring
Use the text commands to get the exact location of the Personal Alarm and view
on Google Maps, or use the free Pebbell iOS or Android smartphone apps and
Pebbell Live-Tracking website to view the device’s location in real-time. Call
and text the Personal Alarm from almost anywhere in the world!
Text alerts
Set-up text alerts for a number of different functions, and when the Personal
Alarm breaches your set parameters, you will receive a text alert with the
current location of the Personal Alarm and type of alert.
Fall detection
With built-in fall detection, the Personal Alarm can automatically alert and
call all programmed contacts without the wearer needing to press the SOS button,
providing hands-free assistance in the event of a trip or fall.
Geo-fencing (virtual boundaries in/out)
Capable of setting up to three Geo-fences, this function will send an alert when
the Personal Alarm breaches the set boundary (either in or out), providing you
with additional monitoring options.
Speed detection
Set the Speed Detection to your desired threshold, and if this speed is breached,
the Personal Alarm will send a text alert with the speed details and the current
location of the device.
Movement & motion alerts
Movement and Motion alerts provide the ability to monitor and be alerted of
times where the Personal Alarm is motionless versus in-motion. Useful functions
for monitoring elderly or disabled people living alone.
Silent listen-in
When enabled, the silent listen-in function allows contacts to silently call the
Personal Alarm without the wearer of the device being aware. This allows callers
to hear the environment around the device at any given time and is especially
useful for checking-in on elderly members of the family without having to
disturb them.
How far will the PEBBELL GPS locate? If my child has left our town or gone to
Scotland, will the device inform me on this?
Our system is designed to locate the PEBBELL GPS anywhere in the UK (works also
EU + World). If the product enters an area without GSM coverage, the GPS feature
will not be able to report its current location until it re-enters an area with
mobile network coverage. If you travel outside your respective country, then the
product will use the roaming partners to transmit the product’s location. Please
note that no roaming charges will apply in EU (HoIP SIM).
Does the PEBBELL GPS work the same way in all locations?
No. The PEBBELL GPS works best in suburban areas such as neighbourhoods, houses,
schools, parks and flatter regions. It can receive a GPS signal better in those
areas because there is less obstruction to the GPS signal. The more direct line
of sight the GPS has to the satellites, the more accurate the position will be.
The PEBBELL GPS will work on a limited basis in large cities where there are
many high-rise buildings. Tall buildings can block the line of sight from the
product to the satellite and make it difficult for the product to update current
location data.
The subscription plans that are available through PEBBELL GPS are based on usage
in the Europe. If you are planning on leaving the country, then roaming charges
will apply. Please keep in mind that different rates apply for different
countries and they might be higher than in your home country.
Will the PEBBELL GPS work anywhere?
The PEBBELL GPS is dependent upon two technologies – GPS (Global Positioning
System) and Mobile Networks (GSM). The product will work anywhere where you can
receive both a GPS signal and have Mobile Network reception. The subscription
plans that are available through PEBBELL GPS are based on usage in 32 EU
countries.
Where can I buy a PEBBELL GPS tracker?
PEBBELL devices are currently available through our HoIP PEBBELL Store. PEBBELL
devices are also available through our resellers/distributors around UK and
Europe. We are signing new local sales points in near future, so please check
back for updates and sign up for the newsletter to receive the latest
information.
What is a PEBBELL GPS??
PEBBELL Personal Alarm and GPS Tracker is especially built for real time
monitoring and it can be used in all areas of life from travelling and lone
worker protection to specialized care and security services. It is suitable for
children, the elderly, people suffering from dementia, and also outdoorsmen,
sportsmen etc. PEBBELL GPS provides a simple yet effective voice communication
and locating mechanism to enhance and protect the users’ everyday lives. It uses
GPS for excellent locating capabilities and GSM network to transmit those
positions. Our Mobile Network capability utilizes for the industry’s best UK
coverage.
Is there a SIM Card included with the purchase?
HoIP Telecom Pro SIM is pre installed and cost optimised UK and Europe but also
works all over the world. For all other countries, including the USA, we advise
to contact our local service providers to arrange a SIM card on a plan that
suits your purpose and budget for this device. The SIM should have Voice/Data/SMS
capability. If the SIM plan doesn’t not have some or all or these attributes,
you may not be able to use all of the GPS tracker’s features.
Does the Pebbell work indoors?
Yes, to a degree. It will still work if in a small bag, in a standard home or
apartment, or in a car for example, but may not work in high-density areas like
underground parking-lots or in larger buildings where GPS and mobile signals
cannot reach due to layers of concrete, metal and/or any other type of material
that may prohibit a signal getting through.
Also, it may not work in areas that have poor mobile signal. While the location
data would still be collected on the device via communication with satellites,
there would be no way to transmit that information if the cellular network
wasn’t also available.
What happens if there is no Mobile Network coverage in the area?
The product will not work in any area that does not have Mobile Network coverage
(GSM).

receive both a GPS signal and have Mobile Network reception. The subscription
plans that are available through PEBBELL GPS are based on usage in 32 EU
countries.
Does Pebbell work on 3G/4G/LTE?
Pebbell v3 does work on 3G. Pebbell v2 is supported only by 2G networks, due to
its 2G chipset. Pebbell is one of the smallest wearable SOS mobile phone on the
market and also one with the best battery life span. Pebbell is only able to do
this thanks to its extremely small and battery saving 2G chipset. 3G, 4G or LTE
chipset would not allow us to reach such a small size and battery performance.
We are travelling abroad. Does Pebbell work in roaming?
As long as there is 2G GSM Network and there is enough credit on the Pebbell’s
SIM Card, Pebbell works in any country in the world, where there is 2G coverage.
Find out more details about Pebbell’s network compatibility – contact: support@pebbell-gps.co.uk
Pebbell LIVE, please note that Pebbell needs data credit in order to update its
location. As roaming might be expensive, especially data,
We have tested a number of operators to make sure that Pebbell will work fine in
different countries, so please follow this reference list of recommended
operators
Can I call Pebbell from anywhere?
Pebbell works like any other mobile phone. Whenever Pebbell has cell coverage,
voice credit and battery power, it’ll be able to make and receive phone calls.
Pebbell can make and receive calls to any telephone number saved in its memory (Pebbell
v1) and Pebbell v2 only authorized numbers (A1, B1 and C1) can call to the
device and can be called.
What if there is no 2G coverage in my country?
Then, unfortunately, Pebbell will not be able to work properly. You will still
be able to call if your operator supports GSM communication. However you will
not be able to see your Pebbell’s location.
If your country does not have an operator that supports neither GSM nor 2G, you
might want to purchase Pebbell v3 (3G).
Will Pebbell work in my country?
Pebbell is a mobile phone that works on 2G networks around the world, except in
Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and North Korea (where
there are no 2G networks currently). Please check with your preferred carrier
that you have 2G coverage in your area.
You can also Purcahse Pebbell v3 (3G) if you live in above mentioned countries

How accurate is the GPS location?
U-blox 7 GPS modules are able to obtain accuracy down to 5–15m depending upon
many environmental factors.
Can anyone track my PEBBELL GPS?
No. You will be able to list the 3 trusted individuals that you want to receive
alerts. You can change or edit these individuals at any time as needed.

Pebbell GPS Accuracy?
Today’s consumer GPS device (like our Pebbell) work rather accurate. However,
hiccups do occur. There are many factors that contribute to the accuracy of GPS
data and it’s important to keep in mind that no data is perfect, in fact there
is some degree of error inherent in any GPS recording. The most accurate
consumer oriented GPS devices, at their best performance, are accurate to around
three to five meters and work on level 99.35-99.60%. Ignoring environmental
factors different devices do simply have different qualities of GPS hardware and
software meaning that even if the Pebbell is working at its best performance,
there will always be a margin of error in the accuracy of its recording.
The GPS works while the Pebbell is connecting to a number of overhead satellites
and very precisely measuring the amount of time it takes for a signal to travel
between your Pebbell and the satellites. Because the speed at which the signal
travels is known, the amount of time the signal is in transit allows Pebbell to
calculate the distance to each satellite. Since the position of each satellite
is known, as well as the distance between those satellites and your GPS device,
your position can be triangulated. Because we’re dealing with extremely fast
signals requiring precise detection, any slight inaccuracy in the signal’s
reception, or disturbance to the signal itself, can translate to a significant
dislocation of your reported position. Consequently, environmental factors such
as dense trees, tunnels, steep hillsides, tall buildings, or even heavy cloud
cover can impact or even interrupt the travel of the GPS signal between Pebbell
and the satellites.
However, some key practices can help to improve the Pebbell GPS data quality:
Sometimes it’s as simple as a matter of where the Pebbell is positioned; making
sure your device is mounted/carried as high up and unobstructed as possible,
instead of buried deep in a pocket.
Please do not place any metal folded stickers on the device
Avoid environments that are always going to be problematic for a GPS signal such
as canyons – whether natural or manmade (think a city street lined by tall
buildings); dense trees, etc.
In many cases it will help to give the device a minute or two to fully acquire a
signal before beginning a ride or walk; and doing so outside, rather than inside
while you get ready, will be beneficial
Avoid heat reflective windscreens. Some modern houses have a thermic
heat-reflecting windscreens and built-in windscreen heaters (In some Audi, BMW
etc. models) can block GPS signal reception inside the car.
Please keep also in mind the Pebbell device needs to be able to see at least
four GPS satellites to be able to calculate its location on the map. If the GPS
signal is weak or Pebbell is only able to see three satellites or fewer, Pebbell
will send back the Cell ID Location (based on Mobile Networks) if you have set
this active and then the accuracy can be from 300 m – up to some km.
Pebbell is made to be used outdoors – it is not an indoor tracking device, in
areas with tall buildings or trees it can face challenges. Certainly Pebbell
works very well also in cities like London or New York but while doing testing
there you can easily point out limitation. To have an optimum performance
Pebbell should have a clear view of the sky and like mentioned before Pebbell
must find a minimum of four satellites.
To get the most accurate GPS location updates to your LIVE service please keep
in mind: By default the Pebbell updates its location every 15 minutes so 96
location per day and approx. 2880 locations in a month. This means that when the
device is all the time updating its location it will not need any cold start (happened
when you have not used the device in some hours or days or even weeks). The
costs for getting the location update every 15 minutes is about 80p-1.00 +VAT
per month. If you like you can set the interval to a short length. The update
every 15minutes (or shorter) certainly increase the battery consumption
therefore we designed the desktop charger. It allows you to place the device
easily for charging – when back home just place the device in desktop charger
and when going out take it with you. If you prefer to use power saving mode,
note that the GPS is not ON hence if you move a lot and then request a location
it will always be a cold start and hitches may accrue.
How many contacts can be added to my device?
Pebbell v1 and Pebbell v2
The PEBBELL tracker can store three emergency contacts. In case of emergency, an
SOS text message is sent to all registered contacts and it contains key
information about the status of the device as well as a Google Maps link, which
shows the location of the user at the time of activation. The PEBBELL two-way
speech also allows the wearer to talk into the pendant and directly communicate
with their contact. If the first number doesn’t answer the phone then the device
will continue to dial the 2nd contact and in turn the 3rd contact.
What method does the device use to send SOS alerts and make emergency
calls?
The device comes with a roaming Multi-Network SIM card with £2*, £5* or £10*(*varies
depending on reseller) credit, allowing you to quickly get to grips with the
tracker. In order to maintain connectivity, the SIM must be topped up at:
http://pebbell.easypayg.com/index.php.
How do I charge the device?
There are a few methods.
1. Charge the device by plugging-in the micro USB cable into the wall socket by
using a 1amp plug, and directly into the USB port on the side of the device.
2. Charge the device by plugging-in the micro USB cable into the wall socket by
using a 1amp plug, and directly into the back of the docking station (supplied
with some purchases), and then placing the device into the docking station.
3. Instead of plugging directly into the wall socket, you can charge by plugging
the USB end into any USB port (i.e. on a laptop)
WARNING: Do not exceed the specificed 1amp charging requirement, as the device
may short-out resulting in damage or failure of the device. Avoid charging with
3rd partp approved cables/plugs, or charging in sockets where the amp rating is
higher than 1amp (i.e. in many cars, powered USB hubs etc.)
What type of battery does PEBBELL use and how long does it last?
PEBBELL comes with a built-in, chargeable 3.7V 900mAh battery. Current power
usage on standby mode is =2mAh. In normal usage the battery lasts usually over 8
days depending on how actively you use PEBBELL. PEBBELL has a built-in 3D
G-sensor. When the G-sensor detects no movement or motion for 5 minutes, the
device goes into sleeping mode to save power. If a slight movement or vibration,
violent collision or strong impact is detected (i.e. someone touching your
device or the device moving slightly, movement from normal walking, elderly
person/teenager falling, car accident, tow-away warning, incoming call, SMS
etc.), the device will be activated by the G-sensor and starts to work
immediately.
How small can I set a geo-fence area?
We recommend that you do not set the zone for less than 300 meters. This helps
prevent false alerts.
What are geo-fences?
Geo-fences are virtual perimeters for real geographic areas. The PEBBELL allows
you to draw geo-fences in order to indicate “safe zones”. If your child goes too
close to the perimeter or leaves the safe zone area, you will receive an alert
via your phone.
PEBBELL geo-fence – how does it work?
PEBBELL geo-fencing is the practice of using global positioning (GPS) to define
a geographic boundary. Then, once this “virtual barrier” is established, the
administrator can set up triggers that send a text message, email alert, or app
notification when PEBBELL device enters (or exits) the specified area.
The use of a geo-fence is called geo-fencing, and one example of usage involves
a PEBBELL device user entering or exiting a geo-fence. This activity could
trigger an alert to the device’s user as well as messaging to the geo-fence
operator. This info, which could contain the location of the device, could be
sent to a mobile telephone or an email account.
Can I track my child with PEBBELL?
Once you’ve purchased your PEBBELL, follow an easy three-step process. The
location of PEBBELL is determined through the utilization of the GPS satellite
systems. PEBBELL’s position is reported as SMS and opening the SMS link then
indicates the position on a map. This position can be viewed via the Internet or
on a smartphone.
What can the reasons be for GSM LED not blinking?
There is no inserted SIM card
There is no GSM signal in your area
SIM card has an activated PIN code
SIM card is damaged
Device battery is too low to operate
What is the warranty for Pebbell?
We offer a limited warranty stating that the hardware will be free from defects
in material and workmanship when used normally and in accordance with our
instructions. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the limited warranty
offered by us is limited for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of
purchase.
If the time limitation of twelve (12) months from the date when the hardware was
purchased is in non-compliance with mandatory law, we offer a limited warranty
in accordance with the minimum permitted by mandatory law. For full details on
what is covered under the limited warranty, please see the “Terms & Conditions”
at:
http://www.pebbell-gps.com/warranty-terms-2.
How do I turn the device on?
You can turn the tracker on by holding down the side button for 2-3 seconds
until the device vibrates and/or beeps
How can I reset my Pebbell to factory settings?
Send following SMS command to your Pebbell
RESET!
Why is my Pebbell not charging?
If your Pebbell is not charging, it may be time to clean it!
Normal use of a wearable device includes contact with the skin. On a daily basis,
we can use different chemical products like sun block, lotion, mosquito
repellent and others. These products combined with the natural sweat our body
produces can create a layer on top of the contact pins used for charging PEBBELL.
This is why the back of the device should be cleaned on a regular basis. Summer
season and the increase in outdoor activities might require a higher cleaning
frequency than other seasons.
Additionally, traditional charging blocks would stop the flow of energy to a
device if not enough current is flowing. This is a safety feature to avoid a
device over charging. But when a device has some dust or particles stopping the
proper charging function, it is best to try charging the device on a PC or
laptop USB adapter, since these adapters will always provide power.
Follow the steps below in order to clean the PEBBELL’s charging port. If
cleaning your PEBBELL will not solve the charging problem, please contact our
support team, as your product might have another issue.
How to clean?
Use a soft cloth with alcohol to remove any dust, particles or excess
moisture on the device. Alcohol is nonconductive and dries quickly. Please only
do this on the pin area to avoid removing the PEBBELL IMEI number from the back
plate.
If this is not sufficient, please use a eraser like the one found on the back of
a pencil and rub the contact points on your back plate. Any type of eraser is
suitable to use, but the harder the eraser the better. After using the eraser,
clean again with alcohol and soft wipe to remove any remaining particles.
How NOT to clean?
Do not use any metallic product or abrasive material. Doing this will create
scratched surface on the contact pad, making more difficult the connection
between the charging cable and the connection pad on the back of PEBBELL. In
case a product has been cleaned with an abrasive material, warranty would be
void.
Do not use acetone or nail polish. These chemicals can react with the plastic
and metallic parts on PEBBELL and do irreparable damage. Any damage due to the
use of these type of chemical would void the warranty. Water should not be used,
since it will rust the metallic parts on the back of PEBBELL, and takes a long
time to dry.
What is an IMEI and where can I find it?
An IMEI is a unique number that tells us a bit about your device. It can be
found on the back of your Tinitell or on the bottom of the box your device came
in.
